- If both ends are V.34, there should be ZERO reason to force V.FC. V.FC is
- the predecessor to V.34, which has a much better encoding schema, and works
- better over noisy lines. The ONLY reason that most V.34 modems even INCLUDE
- V.FC is for compatibility with the relatively large V.FC-only modem
- population (even then, some V.34 modems don't include a V.FC fallback mode;
- namely Motorola Lifestyle 28.8s and early Microsoft DeskPorte FAST V.34s;
- however, all newer Microcom DeskPorte FAST 28.8s DO include V.FC fallback
- capability), like my current Zoltrix ZX-288 ACi (V.FC external, based on the
- Rockwell V.FC chipset). However, this V.FC connects, often for hours at a
- time, to a Zoom V.34 that my ISP uses at their end, with no problems.
